A fire service is investigating the cause of a blaze that left a chapel badly damaged.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the Redeemed Christian Church of God chapel on Plumstead Road, Norwich, at about 14:30 BST on Sunday.

Firefighters left the scene at about 22:40 and a fire investigation is now being carried out at the site.

Norfolk Police said no criminal investigation was required.

Crews from Sprowston, Earlham, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Hingham, Hethersett, Long Stratton and North Walsham attended.

Sheringham and Aylsham crews also helped to provide relief cover.

During the incident, residents were advised to close their windows and road users were advised to find an alternative route.

The service said crews tackled the blaze for a number of hours and ensured it did not spread to nearby buildings.

It said a crew would remain on site on Monday to keep a watch on the building.

The building was formerly occupied by a line-dancing club called The Wild Stallion Dance Ranch.

The church declined to comment on the fire.
